Morris Dancing
Well, these chaps arn't actually dancing, some of them are singing though and others are tapping their feet, so dancing is an ever present danger!

Thursday night is the night the morris comes to the Bag - they come to drink though, not to dance, sometimes they bring friends with them, these came from Minnesota; it was a good night.

Usually they just get in the bloody way
.

A Real Ale Pub in Hotwells Bristol
The Bag o' Nails is a true free House (no that doesn't mean...), with a wide and frequently changing selection of cask conditioned beers. The pub has a policy of supporting independent breweries, and as we are not tied, we can choose the beers we want and change them as we wish, so you will find all sorts of interesting stuff here!  A range of bottle conditioned beers, unpasteurised continental lagers, German wheat beers and cider also available.

Beer Festival
No need for tickets or anything like that  - just turn up and enjoy

Every six months, usually in April and November, The Bag holds a Beer Festival, when the management try to get even more inventive than usual when seeking out beers. The cellar gets crammed with beer and over the four days, the pub, which is not exactly spacious, can also get quite... intimate. If you can't make any  of the four official days, (or you don't like crowds) it's worth noting that for practical reasons, some of the 'festival' beer will go on the pump before and after the date, so it's  well worth looking in to see what's on offer.

Next Beer Festival at the Bag is planned for

15th to 18th April 2010

Opening Hours
Monday to Wednesday 5:30 pm - 11 pm
Thursday 12 noon - 2:30 pm   5:30  - 11 pm
Friday & Saturday 12 noon - 11 pm
Sunday 12 noon - 10:30 pm

Quiz Night at the Bag
Wednesday Night is Quiz Night...
Yes, every Wednesday, or more accurately, nearly every Wednesday,  the Bag holds a quiz night; you know the sort of thing, people come along and answer questions - there are prizes, you can win beer !    It  starts at about half eight to nine, depending on the wind, and is usually an amusing, good natured occasion; violent disputes over what is, or is not the correct answer, hardley ever break out!

A sample quiz paper can be found HERE!

don't ask questions about Big Brother!
Essential Beer Websites

A wonderful resource if you want information on beers or breweries past and present.  contains details of every beer known to have been produced in the British Isles since the mid seventies.
60s and 70s Beer Guide. Documents the changes in drinking habits, the relentless spread of keg beers and the CAMRA lead fightback.
If you want to know of pubs that are no more, check for name changes, or just find out who was landlord of the American Eagle in 1862 - then this is for you.
The aim of this site is to provide the visitor with a resource that presents the most up to date list of UK based Real Ale Breweries available on the Internet.
The place to go for information on bottled beers. They currently list 2915 beers, from 76 different countries, with tasting notes and  other information.
and then of course...

An unusually successful consumer organisation; without these guys we'd  all be drinking John Smith's smooth and bloody Fosters. Respect is due here. Not only have these people been campaigning for beer, pubs and drinkers since 1971, I seem to recall that they actually coined the term 'Real Ale' in the first place. What a brand! *

*unlike the pointing girl with a beer glass Photoshopped to her head. What's that about then, eh?

Things to do in and Around Bristol
The Liesure and Culture section of bristol City Council's website provides a comprehensive list of things to do and see in and around Bristol. There's a map to help you navigate, and you can even pay your council tax or parking fines here; what fun!
Bristol's official tourist information site - hotels, accommodation, maps, restaurants, nightlife - there's probably much more, but truth to tell, I havn't really looked because, well, I live here!
The website of Venue Magazine. An essential site for every West Country trendy - everything happening is here! - visiting this site  doesn't necessarily mean that you're cool - but you can't be cool if you don't go here - Contains a  useful link to the Samaritans.
