The Bag o' Nails is a Real Ale Pub
Now you probably wouldn't be here if you needed this explaining, but in case you've arrived here by mistake whilst trying to find carpentary sundries, here's a quick definition:
Real Ale
Real Ale, or Cask Conditioned beer, is a natural product, made from malted barley, hops, yeast and water; after leaving the brewery, it continues to ferment and mature in the pub's cellar until it is ready to be drunk. Real ale has a limited "shelf" life and once opened needs to be consumed within a few days, or it will go flat and begin to degrade in flavour. Beer kept in this way requires a skilled operator in the cellar to ensure that it is looked after properly and served at its peak.

About the Bag
The Bag o' Nails is a true free House, which means that we are not tied to any brewery and can choose the beers we want and change them as we wish, so you will find all sorts of interesting stuff here!
The Bag is a traditional, single Bar pub which still has its old gas lighting. There are glass port holes in the floor (no one knows why) through which you can almost see into the cellar below. Affecionados of the cult TV series Star Trek find them especially fascinating, and have been known to spend long periods of time just standing on them, mumbling something about "Scotty" and sniggering. |
